God help me but I've just ordered Devour and Christmas Cottage.  I hope my other DVDs don't beat them up and steal their pocket money.

RSC Hamlet

The big day finally arrived. Tickets had been booked last year, squeeing had started last week, and pretty much everyone I know just wanted me to go and see the ‘damn play with Doctor Who in it and shutup about it!!!’ Jealousy, jealousy….

I’ve not been to Stratford before, but it’s a lovely town, our hotel was 15th/16th century, creaked in all the appropriate places had great staff and a terrible shower, and there are lots of very lovely restaurants, pubs and shiny, shiny shops

The Courtyard Theatre is a very intimate venue, almost in the round, and our seats, four rows from the front in the stalls, were beyond fantastic. I think the production has been getting mixed reviews but my take on it is this… I love going to the theatre but not necessarily to watch Shakespeare, and this production has actually made me want to see more live Shakespeare.

Each actor nailed their parts, particularly Olive Ford Davies as Polonius, who is every interfering parent you’ve ever met and Penny Downie as Gertrude who held a thread of unravelling desperation throughout her performance wonderfully. David Tennant shifted moods from grieving, to possibly a bit bonkers, to cruel, to heartbroken (and to top it all I got to see his underpants. Bend over more David!! I’m so sorry, I couldn’t help myself). And Patrick Stewart as Claudius was downright scary in his manipulations and machinations.

We waited outside afterwards and each actor who came out was very lovely and gracious, Oliver Ford Davies (Polonius) was an absolute gentleman and thanked us for being a wonderful audience, and Peter de Jersey (Horatio) was very sweet if slightly overwhelmed. Unfortunately no Mr Stewart or Mr Tennant, one of the staff came out and actually said the immortal phrase “They have left the building”.  It would have been the icing on the cake, but hey, not to be!

So all in all, it was worth the wait. And we’ve all decided we’re going to try and go back to see something else next year.  But to top it all off BBC4 are showing 'Taking over the Asylum' from the start tonight, so my David Tennant fix can continue for another day, hurrah!

It's just before 1.00am here and I swear that the house just shook on its foundations.  So either Sam and Dean need to get here pronto or that was an earth tremor - eek - it's Northern England, we're not supposed to get them!!!

On 21 August 2008 I will be at the RSC to enjoy a cultural evening of Shakespeare (Hamlet), courtesy of David Tennant and Patrick Stewart.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Just had to share.

Amsterdam is lovely, an absolutely gorgeous city.  I took far too many photographs, walked for miles, found lots of very cool, tiny bars that all seem to be about the size of your living room, full of dark wood and chandeliers - just beckoning you in on a blustery October day - so who could resist?!  The trip from Liverpool was hassle free, K and I managed to meet up no problem, and every single person in Amsterdam is incredibly polite and friendly.  We also found the funkiest Jazz Bar in town and sat at the bar all night head-bopping away.  And we went to the Van Gogh Museum.  Wibble.  Very powerful and emotional.  Theo did love his Vincent.  Sob!  Is it wrong that I'm thinking of SPN?

So, Big Love.  Oo, apart from the hotel room which was the size of a wardrobe.  And the food poisoning.  Yuk.  But we shall not speak of it.

I would post a piccy but I have no idea how to do that.  Picture a canal, with lovely autumnal trees and lots of bikes.  There you go!

Beverley Knight.  Oh Beverley.  How I love thee.  She rocked at the Lowry last year, and she didn't disappoint the second time around in Preston.  Powerful voice, great stage presence and just so sincere when she sings - I believe every single word.  Would definitely go and see her a third time.

Foo Fighters.  Dave Grohl LOOKED RIGHT AT ME.  Yes he bloody did!  Was a real change from the BK concert at a small venue on the Friday, to the Arena on Saturday, but it still felt really personal.  He has a great stage presence too and the atmosphere in the place was electric.  You just felt it as soon as you walked in.  So much squee!!  And we had amazing seats.  Because Dave Grohl LOOKED RIGHT AT ME!!!!!

Ramble over til the next time.  And I need to learn how to post piccies and do cuts and all of that palava.  Oo t'internet is a marvellous thing.

I have just seen Aldis Hodge, aka Jake Talley, aka Ray 'Voodoo' Tatum in an advert for Earl Grey.  In this advert he tells Stephen Fry that he knows Stephen 'feels it in his ding-a-ling'.

I'm not kidding.

It's probably raining frogs outside too.

*lies down for a bit*

Lytham St Annes

Lytham: It may be full of the infirm, the elderly, the slightly deranged infirm and elderly (that'll be the mother), men called Maurice who sprint to snag the last outside table at the Cafe de Paris (and I bet you Maurice hasn't run that fast in about 20 years), but in the sunshine it's gorgeous.  And has lots of other delightful tea shops devoid of Maurices.  And Stringers where I bought a pair of fabulous FMBs - well, not proper FMBs, more like, oo stern school mistress/horse owner Bs.  Honestly, they're really nice.

There's also a promenade.  A great, long, windy, flat promenade where wheelchairs can roam free, unhindered by dodgy pavements and bollards.  Sigh.  There may have been the odd bit of trying not to run over small children (what?  I was really good and didn't hit any of them) or cyclists, but in the sunshine all was well.  Sigh again.

St Annes:  M&S Food.  Nuff said.

All topped off with Pink Martini in the car and Strictly Come Dancing on telly.

Dear God I need a life!

Mark Ronson next weekend anyway, yay!!!  In concert I mean.  Not the man.  Although I wouldn't say no.

Hyde Park and Monkeys!

Had the most wonderful time in London last weekend.  I got to see Crowded House and Peter Gabriel at Hyde Park.  In the pouring rain.  After we'd all mocked the mud fest that was Glastonbury.  See.. karma does exist.

But it was just fantastic and I met some lovely people who I will never see again in my life probably, but, dear Lord, getting soaked wet through is a real bonding experience - the mini cocktail bar we had in our backpacks probably helped too.  Mmm, vodka...

And then on Tuesday I got to see Damon Albarn's new opera, Monkey.  It was the first proper run through they had managed so we got our money back on the tickets (yay!).  We were on the second row in the stalls, and not only did I get to see Damon Albarn (this is me, pointing and saying v loudly, 'it's Damon Albarn' - much to my mate's complete embarrassment), but Su Pollard was there.  Yes.  The Pollard was in the house.  And this is where the karma thing comes in, cus on the proper, proper opening night Jude Law and Dennis Hopper were in attendance.  I mean, Dennis bleedin Hopper versus Su bonkers Pollard!!!  God is laughing at me now.

And if you're at all interested, the opera is absolutely wonderful.  Amazing.  Truly unique.  Just.. go and see it if you get the chance cus you'll be blown away.

And I'm off to bed, nite nite!

A Big Thank You To...

The moron who spilt a pint of warm beer down my back and then told me to "chill out" about it.

Err, no, don't think I will actually.  See, the thing is stuff like that happens when you're clubbing, I've managed to do it to people too, and the required response is "Oh God, sorry, I'm really sorry etc etc" you get my drift.  If he'd done that... fine, like I said, it happens.  Don't be a complete jerk about it and tell me to chill out though, pasty faced uncoordinated pleb boy.

But you know what, it was a great night.

2 Many DJs and Radio Soulwax underneath a train station in what used to be the air raid shelter, bloody good!  The music was insane, the portaloos were surprisingly fragrant and well stocked with loo roll (these things are IMPORTANT!!), and my friends rock.  Especially MJ who kicked someone in the shins for me.  And nailed the venue on the head when she said she felt like she was in a Prodigy video.  For us that's a goooood thing...

Ripped off by the taxi driver on the way home and in bed by 4.30am.  Marvellous.  Just what bank holidays are made for.

And now I am off to make comments on fanfic because I am one of those people who lurks, reads, enjoys and doesn't say anything.  And that is wrong and must be rectified immediately!
